Arthur Vernon Woodworth was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1865. He attended the Roxbury Latin School before enrolling at Harvard University. After graduation in 1891, he earned a BA in divinity from Cambridge Episcopal Theological School and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Freiburg, Germany in 1896.
